Inside_Out is an experimental prototype of responsive and mediated spaces that brings the media outside of the traditional screen-based projection paradigm, and into the space itself, by mapping the media onto spatially-distributed 1-dimensional mediums like ropes and strings. Different media is mapped to each individual rope, which allows for a finer control over the display. The ropes can be arranged to allow participants to walk between them, which makes the body a temporary mobile projection medium, which further blends the body in the environment and blurs the boundaries between the body, the space, and the media.
Boundaries are inherent in the definition of the framed media as a portal between spaces, which implicitly accepts the finite nature of space and the boundaries between adjacent spaces. This project attempts to re-open the issue for debate, and allow for further questioning of the relationship between the media, the body, and space.
